This week Jeanne has a sketch challenge for us to try. I thought I would incorporate the baby wipe technique in my card to add a little extra interest. Not sure what the technique is? Then read on for an explanation.

Here’s the challenge that Jeanne came up with.

To be honest, my main concern with the challenge was including a non- geometric shape. That ruled out lots of stamps and die options for me. In addition, I’m one of those people who like their cards to be clean and simple. Not that I’m OCD or anything!!

Scanning over my stamp collection I came across the Rooted in Nature stamp set. I’ve been wanting to try the baby wipe technique with it for some time and this seemed like a good opportunity. So, here’s  my card for the challenge.

Baby wipe technique featuring the Rooted in Nature stamp set

The technique involves re-inkers and baby wipes to make a stamp pad. It can be quite messy and you will never get the same result twice. But, that is all part of the fun. This is what my baby wipes looked like after 15 minutes!

How to make your own Baby Wipe Technique ink pad

  • Fold four baby wipes (use the cheapest non perfumed ones available) in half , layer them up and place on a plate or craft mat.
  • Using re-inkers of your choice and starting with the darkest colour, dot spots of ink over the baby wipe. The idea is that over a few minutes all the ink spots will merge into one.
  • Leave for 5 minutes to allow the spots to merge.
  • Add additional spots of ink if the colours do not merge.
  • Ink up your stamp as if the baby wipes are a normal ink pad and then stamp your image in the normal way.

If you want to keep your “ink pad” for a few hours (or even a day or two) place it in sealable plastic bag or better yet one of the thin stamp cases.

I hope my card has inspired you to give the challenge and the technique a go. You will find the link to add your card along with pictures of all the other design team members cards over on the CC&S blog. Deadline for adding the link to your card is 11.00 pm (UK time) on Monday, 15 October.

Happy stamping.

  1. You may have been out of your comfort zone but you designed a wonderful autumn card Fiona! Your technique is striking – thank you for explaining it. I’ve heard it mentioned but haven’t tried it. Now that I know how, I will!

    1. Thank you Jeanne. It’s a really fun technique and you will get messy! But that really is part of the fun of it.
