I hope you all had a good Easter and haven’t over indulged on the chocolate. The weather today has been rather horrid what with all the wind and rain, so it has been a stay indoors sort of day.
Because I decided to stay inside (apart from a very quick trip to the shops for food ) I thought it would be a good opportunity to try and improve my photography skills. I don’t have an expensive camera – just a small 5 year old digital one, and to be honest I have in the past tended to simply put it in auto mode for all things. This includes taking photos of the cards and projects that I make. I don’t pretend to be David Bailey (I leave that to my other half), but some of my more recent photos have to be honest left a bit to be desired, so things can only get better (ha ha).
Sometime ago I bought one of those table-top pop-up photo studios from a well known internet site. It came complete with lights and a stand for the camera. I’ve not found a permanent place to put it in my craft studio but this is how I set it up today.
I didn’t use the camera stand simply because there wasn’t any space for it.
Once I was finished with my set up it was time to get to grips with the camera. My craft studio has white light/daylight LED bulbs in the ceiling. This is great for colours but does tend to throw a lot of shadows on things. There have been occasions in class where we have been cursing it but I’m not in a position to replace them all (and don’t want to either). Anyway, at training last weekend one of the things talked about photographing projects and how the white balance and lighting can affect the results. My camera does have a white balance setting so it was time to try various ones to see what looks best.
I’m not completely happy with the end results but they are better than some.
The background is still a little blue for my liking, the others were far too yellow. We won’t even talk about the photos were no adjustment was made.
The card was made using the Pedal Pusher stamp set – one of the sets available for the next few days.
