Ever tried the technique of embossing with dies? It’s such fun and means you can get double the use from your dies and some fabulous results to use on projects..
October’s regular monthly class saw us trying the technique for ourselves. There wasn’t a stamp set in sight!
All you need are dies, Big Shot, cardstock and the Big Shot Embossing Mats. Here are a couple of the cards we made.
This first embossing with dies card was made using the Eclectic Layers Thinlits
- The Night of Navy flower is made from two dies – an outline and a central die. The cardstock was embossed using both dies together and the Embossing Mats.
- Then, just the outline die is used to cut the flower out in the usual way.
- Mint Macaron cardstock is die cut in the usual way and a piece of Night of Navy Baker’s Twine is then threaded through and tied in a bow.
- The Mint Macaron is then adhered to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals. Tip – add a dimensional under the area where you intend to add the flower to give it some extra strength.
This second embossing with dies card was made using the Eastern Medallions Thinlits
The Eastern Medallion thinlits have a number of concentric circles and rings so you can make up your own design.
- The Night of Navy circle was made using three of the dies embossed at the same time and then cut out using a circle die.
- The Crumb Cake background was made by using the same dies laid out individually. The result is a bit steam punk but I really like it. It also means that no two backgrounds are going to be the same.
I hope the cards inspire you to give this embossing with dies technique a go. If you live in the UK and would like to purchase your Stampin’ Up! supplies for these projects from me you will find details below.
Happy stamping – should I say embossing.
