This week I decided to use the Rooted in Nature stamp set for the CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge. Being the third Tuesday in the month it’s time for a colour challenge. These are the ones that Samantha picked for us.

I decided to get a little messy and use the masking technique to make a one layer panel for the card front. It’s fun but oh so simple to do. It also gives you fabulous results every time.

Rooted in Nature for the latest CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge

I could have been a little lazy and simply used Pumpkin Pie cardstock for the strip. But, there would have been a slight danger of the words not stamping properly. Another option would be to add the sentiment as an extra layer, but I really wanted to keep the panel to the one layer.

The inside was kept very simple by stamping a few leaves in a couple of the colours.

To make the front panel for the Rooted in Nature card (9.5 x 13.9 cm of Whisper White)

  • Stamp sentiment in Fresh Fig. My sentiment was made up of two stamps that I’d placed on the same block and checked that they lined up and were straight before stamping.
  • Line up the panel on some grid paper and then use two extra large sticky notes to mask the front. Tip (i) The sticky note needs to be longer than the panel. That way you can use the lines on the grid paper to ensure it’s on straight. (ii) Use washi tape to hold down the non sticky end. If you don’t have any large sticky notes you can use Washi Tape, just be careful when peeling it off once you are finished.
  • Use a Stampin’ Sponge (I cut mine into 8 smaller triangles) to apply the Pumpkin Pie ink. Work in a circular motion from top to bottom (or vice a versa) colouring the Whisper White cardstock. Note the more you go over an area the darker the colour will be.
  • Stamp leaves in Fresh Fig and Granny Apple Green ink.
  • Carefully remove the two sticky notes (or Washi Tape) from the panel.
  • Glue panel to 10.0 x 14.4 cm piece of Pumpkin Pie. Then glue whole thing to Fresh Fig cardbase (14.9 x 21.0 cm which is scored and folded in half at 10.5 cm).
  • Add a few Gold Metallic Pearls to finish.

I hope my card has inspired you to give the challenge ago. You will find the link to add your card along with pictures of all the other design team members cards over on the CC&S blog. Deadline for adding the link to your card is 11.00 pm (UK time) on Monday, 24 September.

Happy stamping.

  1. The colorful leaves look great against the orange strip! Masking can be a pain but you’ve made it look easy and you achieved stunning results. Terrific job, Fiona!
