Hello and welcome to this month’s Global Stampers Blog Hop.  You are currently visiting me, Fiona Whitten, and may have just started here or arrived from one of the other design team members. You will find the links to hop to the previous and next blogs at the bottom of this post.

The theme for this month is Masculine Cards. Not something I tend to make a lot of and something do have problems with at times. Usually because of the lack of male related stamp sets and embellishments in my stash.

I’ve recently returned from the 2018 Alaska Incentive trip and one of the items we were all given as a prize patrol was the Corrugated Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder (available in the soon to be released 2018 Autumn/Winter catalogue). I thought that this would be a great product to use in a masculine card because I love the deep textured grooves.

You do have to be careful with the folder though. These are the lessons I’ve learned –

  • Spritz the cardstock lightly with water to prevent it cracking – this is really important if you are embossing a small piece of cardstock.
  • Be prepared for shrinkage. The Night of Navy cardstock seen below shrank by 0.5 cm across the width.
  • Be careful when running the folder through the Big Shot. You only need 1 clear plate and if you don’t run it through dead square to the aperture you could damage the edges of the folder.
  • Use a strong adhesive to fix the corrugated cardstock to any layers because there is less flat surface to adhere things to.

Global Stampers Masculine card for August Blog Hop

To make the card I used the following

  • Old Olive card base – 10.5 x 29.7 cm scored and folded at 14.9 cm.
  • Night of Navy layer – 10.0 x 13.9 cm run through the Big Shot with the Corrugated Embossing Folder and then glued direct to the card front.
  • Under the Mistletoe Designer Series Paper (DSP) – 6.5 x 12. 2 cm (odd size because I was trying to get an even border around). Fix to the card front (Night of Navy piece) using Stampin’ Dimensionals once the Whisper White stamped piece is glued in place.
  • Whisper White cardstock – 5.0 x 10.0 cm. To ensure that everything lined up I used my Stamparatus to stamp the sentiment in Night of Navy and Old Olive. This was glued to the DSP.
  • Basic Pearls – coloured using a Dark Night of Navy Stampin’ Blend. These were added between each sentiment to give some focus to the card.

Here’s a side view, and you can see the strip of DSP that I added to the inside of the card to finish it off.

Supply List for the Global Stampers blog hop card

The supplies I used for the card are as follows. I guess you could say they are a bit non conventional but it goes to show how versatile stamp sets and DSP can be.
