A few of you know that I have to travel quite a bit if I want to see my immediate family (kids and husband). George’s job means that he travels quite a bit and he has been known to be away for months at a time. Most of his travels take him to San Diego, not a bad place to go if I say so myself, and I tend to catch up with him there.
The kids are in college in the USA and depending on the time of year will visit San Diego in preference to the UK. Jenny goes to Michigan State (which is where I am as you read this) and the other, Michael, goes to college in Chicago (I’m off there next weekend). George on the other hand is currently at home in the UK so I get to do all the return to college stuff with the kids.
I try not to neglect my crafting and blog while I am away and I have a cupboard (not very tidy at the moment) in San Diego with some supplies in it. The problem is that I never seem to keep track of what’s in the cupboard (think it’s an age thing) so sometimes there are two of the same thing and other times the thing I want is not there. I will definitely be making a list of everything before I head to the UK in the vague hope of correcting this problem.
Today I thought I would give you a quick tour of where I get to craft in San Diego.
Here’s my craft cupboard and what it looked like on Friday evening just before I closed the door on it.
Ink pads, paper, punches and some stamp sets of course |
After an accident with an errant Hello Honey ink pad and George’s shiny desk, I now do all my crafting on the kitchen table. It’s right by the window and although the table is not huge but is big enough for my needs.
Or is it? This is what it looked like before I put everything away! Some sneaks peeks of the products being used for projects in the next couple of weeks.
As for taking photos of my projects. Well, I’ve made a makeshift “photo studio” on the bookcase in the lounge.
As you can see, it is very makeshift. Simply two hessian covered pieces of cardboard that I found in a local craft store. It does the trick and you wouldn’t have known if I hadn’t told you, because I’m getting a dab hand at cropping my photos.
You have to admit that it’s a complete contrast to my lovely craft room in the UK, but it has taught me to make the most of the little I have here and not go completely overboard putting embellishments and using multiple stamp sets on one project.
Don’t worry, I do have finished projects to share with you this week even though I’m travelling. Actually I’m more like chief mover and installer as Jenny is moving into an apartment with three friends. I’ve had to hire a large SUV to move all her stuff out of storage and into the apartment. Wish me luck.
